    Don’t Even Get Me Started

Filed under: Crappola — DB @ 12:44 pm

I’ve been mulling this one over for the past several days, and I have to say that the concept really gives me a pain in the butt.

Lately, since Katrina left her mark, religious leaders have started coming out of the woodwork blaming Katrina on everything from Bush’s foreign policy to racial prejudice.  Are these people for real, or do they just think everyone else is so stupid they’ll buy anything fed to them?

Let me give you my somewhat less than professionally philosophical opinion.

I think that most people would agree with me when I say that God, any God you choose to worship, must by definition be perfect.  If not, then I would question your choice of dieties and recommend you move on.

Given then that God is perfect, why would anyone choose to lay a human trait like revenge, petty jealousy, anger, or retribution on God?  Yeah, don’t even bother to quote the Bible to me like "Revenge is mine Sayeth the Lord". God says it’s His if anyone’s, He doesn’t say He’s gonna do it just that it ain’t up to you.  That also means, by the way, that it ain’t up to you to decide what God chooses to do or not do or to interpret His actions according to YOUR agenda.

Virtually every religion chooses to interpret their religious documents, ie. Bible, Koran, etc., as if they were the chosen ones.  Cool… that means we’re all members of the chosen ones.  So we should all expect God to smite anyone who doesn’t agree with us? Who’s right?  Go back and re-read the last paragraph.

The bottom line for me is that people need to pull their heads outta their collective rears and quit making stupid claims and accusations, much less trying to justify their actions and activities by trying to drag God into the turmoil.

Katrina was an act of nature and therefore an act of God, I’ll give you that.  To claim God was trying to single out the sinners because he offended some other group of sinners though is simply ludicrous.  After all, alot of good innocent people also lost their lives when Katrina hit who probably didn’t deserve any sort of retribution.

Now mind you, I’m certainly not against religion.  I am against so-called religious leaders who want to further their own agendas by blamming things on God.  I doubt He appreciates it.

    1. Is that really what people are saying? Holy shitballs. I guess after the first few days, I got so sick of the Katrina coverage that I tuned all things Katrina out.

    2. I’m afraid so Wench.

An ultraconservative Israeli rabbi declared that Katrina was retribution for U.S. support of the Israeli pullout from Gaza. Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam called Katrina judgment for the Iraq war.

There was also a preacher in the South that said Katrina was retribution for Southern racist politics, but I’m too lazy too look that one back up right now.

    3. I’d already heard of the southern preachers saying it was retribution for sinners, but did not hear of the other two… Louis Farrakhan is an idiot so I do not take too much stake in ANYTHING he has to say… I won’t even go there with the rabbi. lol…

I totally agree with you though on these points. Who the hell are we to say what is God’s revenge. The way people interpret things sometimes is just so ridiculous… And they DO need to pull their heads out of their rears before the start speaking… But the biggest shock should be that there are really people out there that believe the shit they’re shoveling.

    5. The problem I have with these morons NG is that they are merely muddying the water (no pun intended) and insulting people’s intelligence.

I have all the sympathy in the world for those folks Gopher, but to me it was a disaster waiting to happen. Sometimes people need to accept responsibility for their own actions or lack thereof. Whomever made the decision not to repair and upgrade those dikes and walls needs to face the music.

    6. Great post DB — agreed with the whole thing… mainly why I am a non-practicing catholic … God is every where so why do I need to go to some fancy building to worship? Prime example of the priests interpreting the bible as they see fit.

    7. Thanks KB :) I don’t think religion is a ripoff, just those religious furballs who pull stupid stuff like this.

    8. Amen, amen I say to you, DB. The whole discussion from those morons is so absurd, it should just implode on itself. Besides the next big one is gonna visit Texas next week. Know any sinners down there?

    9. Actually, I thought Katrina was caused by Sean Connery in The Avengers. Makes about as much sense as what the others are saying, right?

      People…

    10. Brilliant post! I can say no more. Well, I guess I can. Because comments from religious fundamentalists that say things like, “God did this to punnish the sinners” really deserve no reply. If they deserve anything, it’s a serious bitch slappin’!

    11. Sorry for my poor spelling. I meant “punish” not punnish.

    12. Sometimes I just can’t believe how stupid people think the American public really is Bud.

I could believe a Star Wars villan Becky, but not Sean Connery, lol

By their own words TB… if I were them I’d be afraid to walk outside for fear a lightning bolt would hit me.

    13. Amen and Amen DB! The arrogance astounds me! All in the name of God. (I think these “esteemed religous leaders” are going to have some explaining to do when and IF they stand before God one day. Great post!
